A San Fransisco, California mother, Kerry Campbell, admitted on Good Morning America last week that she injects her eight year old daughter Britney with the adult wrinkle fighter Botox to presumably smooth out the child's forehead.
Campbell, a supposed trained esthetician, first told the British newspaper the Sun in March, in an article complete with pictures of her injecting Britney's forehead with the drug, last week she told Lara Spencer of Good Morning America, that this practice is common on the pageant circuit. A claim vehemently denied by pageant officials, including Barbara Thomas, a director of California Gold Coast Pageants.
Britney in CPS Custody
The San Fransisco Child Protective Services Agency is now investigating Campbell due to the flood of outraged calls it received from both citizens of the beautiful city and major news outlets, according to remarks made by Trend Rhorer, the agency's head, made to a local San Fransisco news station on Friday. Over the weekend, CPS removed Britney from the home. The only detail given was that she is doing well.
Side Effects and Legality
The side effects from using Botox on adults are anxiety; arm pain; back pain; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; dry or irritated eyes; facial pain; flu-like symptoms; headache; inability to focus the eyes; increased cough; indigestion; nausea; neck pain; pain, redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection site; runny nose; sensitivity to light; stiff or weak muscles at or near the injection site; sweating; and tiredness.
The FDA does not condone the use of Botox on children. Campbell says that she purchases it over the internet from a "trusted source". She also admits to waxing young Britney's legs and bikini line. "to keep Britney looking younger, longer." Campbell goes on to state that she knows her child will be a "pop star or supermodel", so she is saving her money on procedures she will need later, if not done now.
Are There More Procedures for Britney Coming?
Kerry Campbell told the Sun she gives Britney these treatments every three months. She goes on to say that "more mothers should do this for their daughters", and she is proud of the fact that she believes Brittney to be the youngest recipient of Botox, hopes to have Britney's eyebrows tattooed, and is even considering having light pink lip liner tattooed on Britney as well.
What Britney Has to Say
Brittney herself told , that she wants breast implants and rhinoplasty soon , so that she can "be a star". Surprisingly, both the UK and USA have no current laws prohibiting a child to have these kind of procedures as the beauty industry is self regulating.
